What dance gear should I buy?
1. Dancewear/Leotard
With the exception of Hip Hop, every dancer needs at least one leotard, any style/color. It’s always best to go with a sleeveless style because you can always layer a cardigan if you get cold, or take it off when too hot. You’ll also need tights. Skirts optional.  Bike shorts, leg warmers, or leggings can also be layered. Dancers ages 10+ may wear a mix of dance wear and active wear unless they are in ballet.

2. Dance Bag
Buy or designate a bag as your dancer’s dance bag. Each week they’ll bring it to class. Pack it with dance shoes, an extra hair tie, socks in case, a water bottle, etc.

3. Dance Shoes
If you’re a returning dancer, check to see that your dance shoes still fit! See below for what to buy or send us an email at downtowndancepa@gmail.com.

Ballet Ages 3-6
Tieless ballet shoes in styles like Belle Bloch or Capezio Love.  TIELESS is very important. Girls in pink, boys in black.

Ballet Ages 7-9
Girls pink leather, full sole (see example). Boys in black.

Ballet Ages 10+
Pink leather, split sole with criss-cross elastic (see example)

Tap Ages 4-8
Black shoes that tie (ie Capezio Jr Tyette) or velcro. 
Boys: black, lace up style.

Tap Ages 9+
Black, lace up shoes that have a “strong toe box” in the description.

Musical Theater/Jazz Ages 5+
Tan, Slip on leather (see example).
Intermediates: Order this style when needing a new size (see example).

Lyrical Ages 7+
New dancers: Tan, Child Lyrical Flow or Adult Capezio Pirouette (closed toe, half canvas)
Returning: Stick with the Foot Undeez/Dance paws until you need new shoes. The new shoe will help with turns.

Contemporary 10+
Same as Lyrical.

Hip Hop/Bop ages 3-7
Regular sneakers any color/style

Hip Hop Ages 8+
Black, Dance Sneakers (see example)

If you sign up for a combination “combo” class like “Itty Bitty Ballet/Tap” for ages 4-5, you will need ballet & tap shoes.
